OVERVIEW The Office of S. Conger Architects LLC was established in 2002 by architect Susan Conger-Austin and provides Architecture, Interior Design, Programming and Strategic Planning Services. Since its inception S. Conger Architects has worked on a wide variety of project typologies including private, public, institutional, and commercial for a diverse range of clients, such as Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Menomonee Boys and Girls Club of Chicago. The firm seeks to balance programmatic and site concerns with an understanding of public interaction at all levels. In order to streamline operations, experienced consultants are hired on an as-needed basis when warranted by the scope of the project. S. Conger Architects is also willing to work with other architectural firms if the size of project requires this. This collaborative approach to design fosters an open exchange of ideas both within the firm and with its clients and colleagues, resulting in highly sensitive and detailed projects of every scale. In addition to maintaining a private practice in Chicago, Ms. Conger-Austin is a faculty member in the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Ms. Conger-Austin began her architectural career in the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. She was promoted to Associate and Studio Head in 1987, and Associate Partner in 1990. In 1993 she left SOM to establish her own firm and teach at IIT. Since 2000, she has taught with numerous universities and faculty throughout the world. Most recently, in March, 2014, she presented a series of lectures for a post-graduate course at the Escola da Cidade in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Her focus is a comprehensive approach, one that is collaborative and embedded in current urban settings. Ms Conger-Austin was educated at Stanford University with degrees in economics and art history, and received her Masters in Architecture at Princeton University. |
